Hi everybody! How are you all doing today? Here at Cardboard Jungle, we are all about having fun and learning at the same time all about our animals and where they live.

Today is Earth Day 2021, and we want to do our bit and help children learn about the importance of forests.

Cardboard Jungle Earth Day

In our first blog we talked about the importance of Eco Systems, and we think that that will help you understand a bit more before we talk about the words Deforestation and Reforestation – they’re long words, right?

Deforestation means when someone cuts down a forest or a group of trees so that they can use that land for another reason.  That land could then be used for a new farm, a ranch, or new homes for people to live in.

A lot of our jungle animals live in forests, and in the past 120 years, we have lost 20% of them. And we are losing about 18 million acres of forests every year. That is enormous, right? This has been a huge threat to a lot of our animals.

There are so many reasons why Forests are so important. You will learn from our animal booklets that most of these animals need forests or trees for their homes which are also called habitats. They provide shelter, food, they make the air we breathe in purer and they also regulate temperatures and most importantly are a huge factor to solving problems of climate change.

Cardboard Jungle Reforestation

We mentioned earlier in this blog about the word Reforestation which means replanting trees. It is the most Important and one of the easiest ways that people can help to solve the challenges of climate change.
